Morag O’Hanlon

Morag trained in the UK and Vienna before coming to Canada and was one qualifying competition away from having a chance at making Canada’s eventing team for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics on Sail on Madawaska.  However, this ended when she fell off another horse, Stop the Music, and ruptured her right knee ligaments.

Goals change but the Olympic bug had already struck and Selena, Morag’s daughter,  made riding at the Olympics one of her top goals.  She fulfilled her dream by competing at the (2008 Beijing) Olympics.

Lots has happened for O’Hanlon Eventing since 2008, including competing at the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Badminton 2011, the 2011 PanAm Games and the gambit of CIC-CCI 1*-3* shows.  According to Morag:

If you make the effort, are determined enough, people can do what they set out  to achieve…

Team O’Hanlon is very busy bringing along the young prospects and students  through the levels in eventing and sneaking in a dressage show or two.

Morag is an accomplished international event coach, specializing in balance and position.  When not at home teaching her students, caring for the horses or maintaining her status as a social media guru, you can catch her a various clinics – home and abroad.

Musical Ride for Tsnumai Relief 2004

The O’Hanlons are not above disaster relief either.  With the back-end help of Horse-Canada’s website they organized an online fundraiser bringing in much needed funds for both the 2011 Horses for Japan Earthquake relief and the 2004 Indian tsunami relief.  Through the generous donations of various sponsors, both local and international, and the local and online participants - the eventing community raised thousands of dollars  which in turn was donated to the Red Cross.  Go Team!

Horse-Canada.com Morag's blogFeatured on Horse-Canada‘s website since 2005, Morag blogs about life on an eventing farm and chronicles what it takes to train a horse into a world class eventing competitor.  With feature input from Selena and groom Anne-Marie Duarte, the team bears it all here and on Selena’s blog.
